Catania blew me away!
The street food scene here is on another level. Arancini from the market stalls near Piazza Carlo Alberto were so good I kept going back. The city feels real, not staged for tourists. Locals are warm and the energy is contagious.
Best beach days I've had in years
The beaches around Catania are seriously underappreciated. Lido di Plaia was clean, the water was crystal clear, and it never felt overcrowded. Great little bars along the seafront too. Sicily in summer just hits different.
Baroque architecture everywhere you look
The whole city center around Via Etnea is jaw-dropping. Every street corner has some gorgeous old church or fountain. The Fontana dell'Elefante is way more impressive in person than in photos. Catania definitely deserves more attention than it gets.
Food lovers, come here now
La Pescheria market is an absolute must. Fresh fish, olives, local cheeses - all laid out in this chaotic, wonderful way. Had the best pasta alla Norma of my life at a tiny trattoria nearby. Cheap, filling, and totally authentic.
Great city break with the family
Catania worked really well for us with kids. Plenty to see and do without needing a car. The kids loved the volcano views from the city, and we all enjoyed walking around the old town. Prices are way more reasonable than other Italian cities.
Etna day trip changed my life
Going up Mount Etna from Catania is easy and totally worth it. The landscape near the craters looks almost alien. Back in the city the granita al pistacchio from a bar on Piazza del Duomo was the perfect ending to the day. Incredible combo.
